Leicester City has two School Sport Partnerships (SSPs), one on the west of the city, hosted by The Lancaster School & Sports College managed by Nicky Collett, and one on the east, hosted by Crown Hills Community College managed by Sarah Lansdowne. Nicky & Sarah are the Partnership Development Managers (PDM) based at each of the hosting schools. The PDM manage the SSP and develop strategic links with key partners in sport and the wider community.

A School Sport Coordinator (SSCo) is based each of the SSP's secondary schools.  The SSCo concentrates on improving school sport opportunities, including out of hours school learning, intra and inter-school competition and club links, across a family of primary schools.

There is a Primary Link Teacher (PLT) based in the family's primary and special schools and aim to improve the quantity and quality of PE and sport in their own schools.

The PESSCL Strategy is now the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) often referred to as the ‘Five Hour Offer’.  By 2011 the ambition outlined in the Strategy is to offer all children at least five hours of sport every week, comprising:

  • At least two hours high quality PE in the curriculum (5-16 year olds)
  • The opportunity for at least a further three hours sport beyond the school day delivered by a range of school, community and club providers (5-19 yr olds)
